Aujeszky's disease: hunting dog dies after huntFirst time a hunting dog has been infected with Aujeszky's disease. This was reported by the LUA Rhineland-Palatinate.
In Rhineland-Palatinate has developed a Hunting dog infected with Aujeszky. The Little Munsterlander had previously been hunted with wild boar come into contact. Thereupon he had infected himself with the disease which is basically fatal for dogs. The State Investigation Office (LUA) announced that this was already the fifth confirmed case in hunting dogs in Rhineland-Palatinate within a few years.
Aujeszky's disease: deadly virus for dogs and cats
Dogs become infected primarily through direct contact with infected animals or by being fed raw, uncooked wild boar meat and venison. The authority therefore recommends to refrain from such feeding. The virus is transmitted, among other things, via the Maul-. Nasal mucous membranes of diseased animals transmitted. Therefore, hunting dogs should be kept away from hunted wild boar as far as possible.
Aujeszky's disease: virus found to be fatal for dogs
There is no obligation to report infected wild boars or dogs. Nevertheless, the LUA recommends to report dogs suspected of being infected to the responsible veterinary office. According to current knowledge, Aujeszky's disease is not dangerous for humans. PHK
