The chokeberry, which grows as a shrub and is also called black or bald chokeberry, originally comes from North America. Its fruits were already used by the aborigines. Via Russia and Eastern Europe, the red-fleshed fruit reached Central Europe, where its health value is only just gaining attention. According to studies, the intake of chokeberry has a positive effect on cardiovascular diseases. The high flavonoid content helps to improve blood flow. The dried chokeberries can also be drunk as tea against the mentioned complaints. For this, one to two teaspoons of the berries are brewed with about 250 ml of boiling water and left to infuse for 15 minutes. After straining, enjoy the tea warm.

If you find the berries near you or even have them in your own garden, you can make a juice from the pressed fruits. You can dry the leftover fruit and use it for tea.

Even though it does not make any demands on the soil, it produces more fruit if it stands brightly and warmly in a mixture of sand and clay. The best time to plant is in March to May or September to December.
