Lose weight effectively: Does vitamin C have the same effects as sports? Please mark the appropriate words in the text. With only two clicks you report the error to the editorial office.
Overweight people are at greatly increased risk for vascular disease. A study shows that the intake of vitamin C can have a similarly positive effect on the risk of illness as exercise.
In addition to a healthy diet, regular exercise is essential for good health. Overweight people in particular should increase their physical activity levels in order to improve their health.
Being heavily overweight often brings with it diseases that frequently put the heart at risk.
The hormone endothelin-1 (ET-1) plays an important role: it is produced in the blood vessel walls and is responsible for causing them to contract. In overweight people, however, the activity of this hormone is greatly increased.
Increased risk of vascular diseases
This causes blood vessels to constrict, which slows down blood flow. If organ perfusion is reduced too much, this poses a risk of vascular diseases.
Normally, sport curbs the activity of the hormone. However, as a study published in the journal 'ScienceDaily' shows, vitamin C also has similar positive effects.
The study shows that daily intake of 500 mg of vitamin C reduces ET-1 activity in the same way that a longer walk would have done. Vascular functions could be improved sufficiently.
According to scientists, dietary supplements are therefore a good way for severely overweight people to counteract vasoconstriction – if they are unable to exercise.
Sport is not replaceable
However, it is not a good idea to skip exercise sessions and rely only on vitamin C. Although the capsules have a positive effect on the blood vessels, they can by no means keep up with the good properties of sport.
This has many different effects on the body, it improves the condition and the musculature, strengthens the bones and of course burns calories.
Therefore, try to move as often as possible. Every day you should do at least 10.000 steps walk. Additional workouts also keep your body fit and vital.
Vitamins best fresh
In the course of a healthy and balanced lifestyle, however, many vitamins also belong on your menu, that is of course out of the question. The best way to get them is to eat fresh food.
Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges and grapefruits, but also in strawberries and even in cabbage vegetables such as broccoli and kale. However, a large part is lost during cooking, so prepare the food gently, for example in a steamer.
