The course of study trains students to become teachers of health at vocational schools.
In view of demographic change and the increase in illnesses caused by civilization, the importance of health in the professional world is growing. Lack of exercise and poor diet can already lead to a high proportion of postural and metabolic disorders in children and adolescents. This also increases the importance of subject-specific teaching in the field of health, especially at vocational schools.
As a teacher, you impart knowledge about healthy lifestyles and important basics from the field of prevention to your students. You accompany students in their development up to professional qualification in the field of health and up to the successful completion of a corresponding professional training.
Graduates teach the subject of health at vocational schools after successfully completing their teacher training and passing the state examination. By the broadly set up study contents however also occupations are possible for example within the range of the health education and in the health sector. Much of the content taught in the subject of health is advantageous for a professional activity in the health sector (companies, health insurance companies, the independent health market).
Important parts of the study are knowledge from the field of biology and medicine. You should therefore have an interest in these areas, and also be prepared to carry out health-related tests and exercises on yourself and your fellow students. Previous knowledge is not necessary.
The subject of health is combined with a second subject as well as with educational sciences, as is usual in the teaching profession. Here for example for biology, chemistry or social studies an optimized course of studies is possible. Other subject combinations can be studied in the network of the University of the Greater Region.
The standard period of study up to the degree "Master of Education" is 5 years. This is followed by a 52-week internship. However, this can also be completed (at least in part) during one's studies. A subject-related professional training is also recognized. This is followed by the preparatory service (traineeship).
The course of study is very practice-oriented. There is a close connection with the Bachelor of Science degree program "Sports Science and Health.
