"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. To enjoy the best possible state of health is one of the basic rights of every human being, without distinction of ethnicity, religion, political belief, economic or social status. "
Health is a dazzling term that is hard to define clearly. Behind it, for each individual, there is an individually formed idea. Age, gender, educational background, own experiences, but also the own will play a decisive role. In the natural sciences as well as in medicine, health has always been understood as an antithesis to disease. The WHO, on the other hand, created a multidimensional perspective with its definition: health includes physical, mental and social aspects, which influence each other.
In a time of relative peace and prosperity in Central Europe, many people have the opportunity to consciously focus on their health. In this context, they go well beyond seeking medical help in the event of illness. They rather try to shape their own life in a health-conscious way. Especially in recent years, the desire for a work-life balance, the so-called work-life balance, has increased significantly.
In this sense, exercise and sports activities are also becoming increasingly important in society. Endurance sports are very popular. The effect of endurance training on the heart function can be observed in easily accessible measurement data of the pulse rate ( Fit, happy and healthy ). Based on the structure of the heart and the cardiovascular system, students learn about risk factors for heart health as well as selected forms of child-friendly endurance training. The focus is on own measurements of the pulse rate under different conditions and the evaluative assessment.
Healthy eating also plays an increasingly important role in people's everyday lives. "You are what you eat! " is the motto here. Accordingly targeted food is selected. Food should no longer only provide energy for life processes, it should also be of high quality and taste good. Furthermore, they should come from regional production if possible, so that they have little impact on the environment during production and transport. The contribution Dear Honey? Or agave syrup? deals with the ingredients of the different sweeteners. It shows the path from the problem of which sugar is preferable to the experimental demonstration of different sugars by students. In the following, they conduct a criterion-based research and finally weigh the advantages and disadvantages of the different sweeteners against each other.
Since food consists not only of the nutrients (fats, carbohydrates, proteins), but also minerals and active ingredients, it is important to ensure a balanced intake of all components. Vitamins in particular play a major role in a healthy diet. Vitamin C is a very well-known example, which already centuries ago occupied in particular sailors ( James Cook needs vitamin C ).
