Why you should give up coffee?

Avoiding coffee is a sensitive ie. Because coffee is deeply rooted in our culture. It's not for nothing that "Let's meet for coffee sometime" is commonly understood code for "We should spend time together again sometime". In addition, most of us start EVERY day with a cup of coffee. Some even say they can't get anything going without it. So why is it that more and more health experts are advising people to avoid coffee??

If you're still a little skeptical about why you should give up coffee, we can understand only too well. After all, the morning coffee ritual gives a feeling of stability. That's exactly why we asked our nutritionist Samantha Frost to explain how giving up coffee works, how the body reacts to caffeine, and what the benefits of finally breaking up with coffee can be.

The 5 benefits of not drinking coffee explained

1. Less stress

Do you ever feel nervous and stressed after drinking coffee?? Caffeine could be the culprit. Research shows that as little as 150 mg of caffeine (a small cup of coffee) is enough to trigger anxiety and stress.

Caffeine is made up of a group of chemicals known as methylxanthines, which have been shown to stimulate the central nervous system (CNS) and heart muscles. When we lower our caffeine intake, we also lower these stimulations and bring our CNS and heart muscles back to a resting state.

2. More stamina& Energy

Although caffeine is known for its stimulant effects, regular consumption over a long period of time can lead to negative adjustment symptoms, dependence or fatigue. Due to its diuretic effect, caffeine also promotes the loss of water-soluble nutrients. These water-soluble nutrients need to be replenished constantly – especially during periods of increased energy demand.

What this means? Coffee does not eliminate fatigue. Instead, as a blocker of adenosine, it makes the body less susceptible to feelings of exhaustion. This means that drinking coffee can actually make you feel more tired – you just don't notice it.

Many people feel tired because they have a nutritional deficiency. But consuming stimulant drinks like coffee only exhausts them more.

Instead, we all need more essential nutrients to be healthy and energetic!

3. Better sleep

Caffeine stimulates the release of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol, which activate the sympathetic nervous system and thus put the body in a heightened state of readiness to perform, or rather, to be more active. Keep him awake. Hours often pass before this effect wears off, leaving your body unable to rest. Often it also disturbs the sleep rhythm.

Some people already feel this effect when they drink coffee after 3 p.m. Their bedtime is then delayed considerably, they have to go to the toilet at night or distract themselves in order to fall asleep. All of this, in turn, contributes to them feeling less refreshed the next day, as the all-important sleep time between 1 and 4 a.m. has been compromised. During this time, most of the cellular and muscular regeneration takes place.

4. Stable blood sugar (equivalent to fewer snacking attacks)

As indicated in the last point, caffeine consumption can interrupt our natural sleep rhythm – the same applies to appetite signals. This in turn can lead to a drop in blood sugar levels.

The result: we need a quick energy boost, so we reach for sugary, easy-to-digest snacks. However, their effect wears off quickly, putting us in an endless loop of energy highs and lows.

5. Healthier teeth

Coffee is highly acidic, can contribute to discoloration of the teeth, inflammation of the gums, and reduced strength of the enamel, which means it wears away the enamel and discolors the teeth with each sip.

When you reduce your coffee consumption, you also allow your body to absorb more calcium. The result: a self-confident. Bright smile! For many, the morning cup of coffee is a real ritual. The preparation has almost meditative effect.
