Questions and answers

Subject block school

How long is the BU pension paid if a student is unable to attend school?
In principle, benefits are paid for an indefinite period in the case of incapacity for schooling in the same way as in the case of occupational incapacity of an employed person. The definition “pupil” applies to the duration of school attendance; compulsory school attendance is not taken into account. If school incapacity has occurred, we can take into account newly acquired skills and activities performed as part of the reexamination. Without voluntary pursuit of gainful employment, there is no basis for a concrete referral. If a professional activity is carried out later after recovery, this is usually included in the examination. Examples:
If the student continues to be unable to attend school and begins hourly computer work (not full time) for pay, a specific referral i. d. R. not possible. If, after recovery, the student performs an auxiliary activity in warehousing (full shift) for normal remuneration, a concrete referral is possible.

A student is no longer physically able (but mentally able) to attend school at his or her school. For example, he is in a wheelchair due to an accident. If the student is unable to attend school?
No, if the insured person z. B. can participate in regular classes again in the context of a change of school, unless special educational support is necessary.

A pupil is physically no longer able (but mentally is) to attend classes at his school. He or she is in a wheelchair, for example, due to an accident. He is taught at home by a private teacher. If he is unable to attend school? No, private instruction is equivalent to a change of school, unless the private instruction is necessary because of special educational needs.

If the abstract referral applies to a pupil, d. h. can a high school student be transferred to a secondary school or. be referred to a lower secondary school?
No, there is no abstract referral for pupils either. Occupational disability exists if the insured person has been unable, or is expected to be unable for six months without interruption, as a result of illness, bodily injury or need for care, which must be medically proven, to participate in his previous schooling at a general education school as a pupil without special educational needs. An abstract referral to another type of school is not made. We provide benefits due to occupational disability as a pupil as long as the conditions – as defined – continue to exist.

A student does a voluntary social year after school. The occupational disability insurance was already taken out while the student was still at school. There is insurance coverage for five years according to point 11 of the General Insurance Conditions?
In the case of a voluntary social year, this is a professional activity. Thus, the activity during the social year is the basis for assessing the incapacity in the last profession performed.

A pupil does a voluntary social year after school. An occupational disability insurance does not yet exist at this time. The business partner would like to insure the student. Is it insurable at all? If yes, as a pupil?
An applicant cannot be insured during a voluntary social year.

A student is 1.000 Euro BU monthly pension insured. He becomes unable to attend school due to a physical disability. Later he/she takes up a semi-skilled commercial occupation. Earns 900 Euro net per month. What does this mean for the obligation to pay benefits? What role does the life position play, as the insured 1.000 Euro pension and earns 900 Euro net?

According to the conditions, the standard of examination is exclusively the question of an inability to attend school; in contrast to the referral, the amount of income does not play a role here. If the VP is engaged in a new activity, it must therefore be checked whether the VP is still unable to attend school. We ame that this will regularly not be the case. Whoever is engaged in gainful employment is likely to be i. d. R. no longer be unable to attend school, d. h. the benefits are already cancelled because the inability to attend school has ceased; the income situation is irrelevant in this case.

after finishing school a student goes abroad for one year. The occupational disability insurance was already taken out during his school years. He undertakes for example a world trip or a journey in the context of “work & travel. There is insurance cover against inability to attend school for five years in accordance with point 11 of the AVB?

Yes, as long as no professional activity is pursued, the last activity as a pupil is taken into account (in the case of a world trip). Will z. B. in the context of a "work & travel" stay a professional activity, z. B. as a waiter, it is the basis for the assessment of occupational disability in the last occupation exercised, even if this occupation is exercised only temporarily or for a limited period over several weeks/months.

A student will be insured as a student during school hours. The pupil then does 1. a basic vocational training year, 2. a vocational preparation year and 3. a voluntary service. What insurance cover is provided in each case? The basic vocational training year is assigned to the school operation. The same applies to the vocational preparation year (in NRW also called vocational orientation year), so that for the basic vocational training and vocational preparation year the activity as a pupil is insured. With regard to voluntary work, a distinction must be made between voluntary work in journalism and voluntary work in the media. in the charitable or commercial sector or in the public service sector. Voluntary service in journalism is an official training designation, so the activity is insured as a trainee. A traineeship in the charitable or commercial sector or in the public service is an activity that is not regulated uniformly throughout Germany. If the traineeship is comparable to occupations covered by the Vocational Training Act, the activity is insured as a trainee.

The potential customer is located 1. in a basic vocational training year, 2. in the vocational preparation year and 3. in the voluntary year. an occupational disability insurance does not yet exist at this time. The business partner would like to insure him. Is this possible at all?
Since the basic vocational training year and the pre-vocational training year are assigned to the activity area of pupil, the potential customer is insurable as a pupil. If the occupational disability insurance is to be taken out during a period of voluntary service, an individual application must be made to Swiss Life, Branch Office for Germany in the application management department.

How are pupils to be classified if the type of school attended is not included in the occupational list?

Can we cover elementary school students if you are ten years old or older? No, elementary school is not currently provided as an insurable school type. Insurance coverage can only be applied for from the start of the next higher school type.

Who must sign the application for a pupil under 14 years of age?
Policyholder must be a parent. This parent signs as the policy holder. A parent or guardian must sign on behalf of the child as the insured person. From the age of 14, the child also signs and can, if necessary. also become an insurance policy holder themselves.

For students under 15 years of age, there are additional health questions. One of these is: "In the last ten years, was special support (z. B. special educational measures) required because of learning difficulties, partial performance deficits, speech disorders or behavioral disorders?"What is meant by speech disorders?
A speech disorder is a disorder of the mental production of language. Here are language structure. Speech ability impaired. The communicative use of language is impaired (stuttering, lisping, etc.).).
